A short clip of The Small Strings

This is me singing as part of The Small Strings ukulele band. Tomorrow we head to Manchester for the Tattooists Tea Party! Could be the strangest experience of my life so far and I have a slight concern that I am coming home with some new body art…

Harry Hippie – Bobby Womack

Me and my uke covering my favourite song. I was introduced to this song by a mate a couple of years ago and it blew me away when I first heard it. Amazing words.

Tinker McJingles: The End!

Doing this elf thing has made the Christmas possibly my favourite ever! It is true that I probably got as much out if this as my daughter. A real highlight was one morning at church in early December. She was talking to her friends who all all of a similar age and telling about the elf living at our house. The oldest of the group said he didn’t believe her and a girl jumped to her defence saying:

‘It is true because she pinky promised!’

I spent most of advent worrying that she didn’t actually believe but was having me on and humouring me but then the laughter when she discovered what he had done most mornings, and the sheer joy when she saw her candy canes had grown, they were definitely real. Most of the tricks were fairly quick and cheap though I spent a long time searching Google and Pinterest for ideas – and this is why I put them on here, to save others from having to do the research!

She wrote him a letter on Christmas eve asking if there was any way that he could stay in touch. I plan to have him text my phone once every now and then and he also now has a Facebook page that she can use my account to message him on. I also have friends willing to have him go on holiday with them so they can send photos of him from around the world! I highly recommend doing this with your kids if you can, it has been so much fun.

I’m gonna miss the hairy little freak!

Tinker McJingles: Advent Day 24

The final day!!

Tinker left a note for my daughter:

She came down to see him like this:

And our lounge filled with 200 balloons!

And what’s more, the candy canes had been a resounding success! (see yesterday’s post.)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Tinker McJingles: Advent Day 23

Today my daughter found a string tied to her bed. This string ran all round the house and had clues tied to it.

Each stage required her to identify a word. Each word was a clue relating to something that was hidden in our lounge. Once she got to the end if the string she had to find what was hidden and it was this:

Tinker had made her a ‘grow your own candy cane kit’. This contained some elf compost and a handful of candy cane seeds*. She was given instructions not to taste any of it as it would make her poorly until the canes were grown. She was told to push the seeds into the compost and then put the tub on a window sill and wait for 24 hours.

Tinker McJingles: Advent Day 22

Tinker found a pile of paper plates in a kitchen cupboard and cut a message out.

Unfortunately, he started work on them very late at night and made a glaring error. Fortunately however he spotted it just before retiring to bed and got the scissors out again!

Tinker McJingles: Advent Day 21

After a considerable amount of time attempting to shave a Christmas tree into my head, with my hair getting shorter and shorter with each attempt, the final version was so short it could be felt and not seen! Therefore, Tinker settled for drawing a tree on my head instead….

*Tinker did ask for assistance but none was forthcoming from Mrs McJingles. Be sure to have assistance if you want a decent job done!

Tinker McJingles: Advent Day 20

Tinker found a forgotten little pink excuse of a tree on top of my daughter’s wardrobe and decided it should go downstairs instead of our big tree. The big tree he placed in our bedroom….
